S: That is the key thing for you, of the content bearing fruit?Politely punkish in appearance, Lawrence Weiners brittle beard and rasping utterances give him an evocative air as he stands before an audience.But I tried to create a situation in order to set up an alternative structure, and hopefully people will notice the works as they appear in situ.It is accepting that it is another game star wars pc thing that human beings make thats entered into the work.Everybody has their own size, and it is the content that determines whether you pay attention or not.I want them to see something else.That is your job.
Other than that its just that Blenheim offered itself (to me) and I took the Queens shilling.
S: So you had people working on that?
LW : The key thing is that I find that almost as common courtesy, you are trying very hard to attract their attention; This is important you have to look at it, which is what they have done with art for most of the time.
The exhibition begins to turn Blenheim Palace into a normal museum where theres other peoples art.
S: This and the other works have an incredible scale about them, that isnt as you said inherent to the works, but comes with their locality.
While previous murals incorporated images by artists Shinique Smith, Matthew Ritchie, and Os Gemeosthrough partnerships with the Museum of Fine Arts and Institute of Contemporary ArtWeiners work is the first mural to use text, which is left open to interpretation.
And this is what I am doing, putting them in another context.So all of these other issues, they are academic issues, which has nothing to do with what.S: And how do you see your works sitting in-situ here at the palace, in relation to a more conventional white cube setting?Most people who come here (to Blenheim Palace) dont go to contemporary art galleries.S: In terms of the scale of the lettering for each work, are you always determining that in situ?I dont want to make them unhappy.LW : (The work) can move someplace else, but right now it is working quite well here.
